The Speaking test evaluates your ability to communicate verbally in French in everyday interactions and structured discussions.
General Structure
- The test consists of three tasks (tâches).
- The assessment takes place through an interaction with an examiner.
- Tasks evaluate different speaking abilities, from personal conversation to presenting and defending an opinion.
Parts and Tasks
- Task 1 – Structured Interview (Entretien dirigé): This task lasts 2 minutes and requires no preparation.
- Converse with the examiner about yourself and your personal, family or professional life.
- Demonstrate your ability to communicate naturally with someone you do not know.
- Task 2 – Interaction Exercise (Exercice en interaction): This task lasts 5.5 minutes, including 2 minutes of preparation.
- Obtain information in a common everyday situation.
- Follow the roles and communication context described in the instructions.
- Task 3 – Expressing a Point of View (Expression d’un point de vue): This task lasts 4.5 minutes and requires no preparation.
- Respond to a question selected by the examiner.
- Present your ideas spontaneously, continuously and convincingly.
What Is Assessed
- Talking about yourself, your family and your professional life.
- Asking relevant questions suited to the communication context.
- Expressing opinions, agreement and disagreement.
- Explaining the advantages and disadvantages of a proposal.
- Presenting structured arguments and developing complex subjects with a clear conclusion.

- Organise your ideas before presenting an opinion.
- Use examples to explain and support your arguments.
- Speak clearly and maintain a natural conversation.
